Why can I not get all my Government messages in the Digital Postbox?

If I don’t have a Public Service Card (PSC) can I get a Digital Postbox?

Unfortunately it is not possible to create a Digital Postbox account without a PSC. The PSC helps you to access a range of public services easily. If you don’t have a PSC you can make an appointment to get one. To make an appointment please contact your local PSC Registration Centre and they will tell you what documentation you will need to bring with you. Visit www.psc.gov.ie for more information

What happens if I delete a message?

The deleted message will be moved to a deleted mail folder on your account, from where it will be deleted permanently after 30 days. You can delete it from the deleted folder before than if you wish. Once a message is deleted permanently it will no longer be available - it is just like throwing your physical letter in the bin.

Messages are stored for as long as you like with the ability to organise and delete as you choose.

I do not have a Digital Postbox account can a Public Body send me a digital message anyway?

From time to time, public bodies may request your consent to send you a message to your Digital Postbox (irrespective of you having set up your account). If you permit them to do so - the public body can send you a message to the Digital Postbox, and it will be held in a temporary account for you for 30 days or until you register for your Digital Postbox account. The public body will seek your consent to send the message to you this way and you will have provide them with your PPSN, email address and date-of-birth. As soon as the message is sent you will receive an email alert to register your Digital Postbox account.

If you received an incorrect message, or some of the details provided in a message are incorrect, please contact the sender of that message directly to inform them.

The message I received was not for me. What do I do?

If you receive a message that is clearly not for you – please do not open the message. Contact the Digital Postbox team using the Help button below. Let us know who you are, who sent the message to you, when it was sent and what the title was.

I never received my message?

If you were expecting a message and never received it – please check the following:

Firstly, do you have a Digital Postbox account? You must sign-up to the Digital Postbox in order to receive messages.

Check your “My Senders” page. This page allows you to configure which public bodies can or cannot send you messages.

Finally, contact the sender directly to ask them to confirm they actually sent you the message and to ensure they have your correct PPSN, email address and date of birth. This information is used to send you the message.

Can I login to the Digital Postbox with a different login authentication?

No, for security reasons, MyGovID is the only approved authentication for the Digital Postbox.

What is a MyGovID and how can I get one?

MyGovID is secure online account for accessing your public services online. In order to use this service, you must first register with MyGovID. MyGovID is built on the Public Service Card, linking a ‘real world’ identity to an online one. For Public Service Bodies to ensure the MyGovID authentication process is secure you first go through a SAFE registration and obtain a Public Services. This is a once off task that then enables citizens to access all their Government services online.

Will I be able to delete my account and revert to receiving traditional paper post?

Yes, if at any time you decide that you no longer wish to receive mail from a particular Public Body, you can simply unregister from one or all Public Bodies through your “My Senders” page. Also, if you no longer wish to avail of the Digital Postbox at all, you can delete your account and withdraw your consent at any time, for more information on deleting your account click here.

Will I be able to search, sort and filter my messages?

Yes you can create, name and delete folders in your Digital Postbox. We support drag and drop of your messages between folders and it is also possible to move one or more messages to a folder at one time.

Can I decide how I am notified?

Yes under your profile settings you will be able to choose a notification by email and/or SMS to your dedicated phone number and email address. It is mandatory to choose at least one means of notification.

Can I change my phone number for my account?

Yes you can also update your phone number under your profile settings and we would ask that you keep this up to date especially if you choose SMS notifications. Please remember to login, the phone number that was given when you created your MyGovID account.

Yes under your profile settings you will be able to update your email address and we so ask that you keep your email address up to date to enable us to send you your government mail.

Can I update the first name and surname for my MyGovID account?

Unfortunately you cannot change the first name and surname that you registered your MyGovID account with. You will need to register a new MyGovID account with a different email address if you wish to use a different name. The first name and surname you provided on registration does not impact the name that will appear on your public services card or verification of your MyGovID account.
